So have you had
your fix today? Have you sought out that which brings you the greatest
pleasure? Was it a new pair of
“must-have” shoes, the buzz of that first drink, the vacation you can ill
afford, that grossly over-priced cup of coffee, that extra ½ mile on today’s
run or maybe it’s that clandestine romantic tryst behind your partner’s back?
We love the
adrenaline rush! We love to seek the happiness of the moment. We pass on that
need for a rush to our children - buying toys, cell phones and other gadgets to
show them affection, quiet the persistent begging and give them “happiness”.
Just like the
street drug that brings happiness in the moment, often the pursuit of happiness
brings ultimate disappointment and pain –whether in the form of brain damage
from Meth or the soaring debt of unhealthy spending, even the material focus of
our life. The pursuit of happiness alone
is an addiction with grave consequences – the problem with buy now, pay later –
is that you will pay later.
There is a
better option. What is it?

I love the progressively excited look on a 7 year-old’s face as Christmas morning approaches. By Christmas Eve they begin to resemble a Starbuck’s aficionado (or addict?) who has just finished their third quad-shot Americano. They can’t sit still, they can’t stop talking, and they can’t focus – completely overwhelmed. Imagine the sense of anticipation at the coming of the Messiah. (I am fairly confident Starbuck’s had not yet opened its Bethlehem location). For thousands of years people had been waiting expectantly for the promised Redeemer, the fullest expression of holy and perfect love, who came to be born that first Christmas morning. Imagine what it was like to be those who saw, and understood what was coming to pass. Excitement, joy, hope, peace intermingled – seeing the fulfillment of God’s promise by our faithful and loving heavenly Father. Lovingly sending his Son to be our redeemer -the very satisfaction of our souls that can only be found in Him.
With the busyness that has come to symbolize the season, our prayer would be that you would be excited about the greatest gift this Christmas, the Lord Jesus Christ, and experience true peace and real blessing as you come to know and relish Him.
Join us in celebration
